The new summer/spring 2013 collection of Lecoanet Hemant is an ode to the indigenous culture of Nagaland. Nagaland is a state in the far north-eastern part of India and is home to different tribes, each with their own unique designs when it comes to clothing and art. Lecoanet Hemant drew inspiration from the Naga wrap which is a combination of a lungi (sarong) and a skirt with an embroidered front flap. The traditional Naga diamond motif appears throughout their summer/spring 2013 collection. The collection exists of sophisticated and feminine clothing: dresses, blouses, skirts, trousers and jackets. The fabrics are made of high quality silks, satinated cottons and matelasse padded material. I love the color palette that has been used, which is mostly primary colors like deep reds, bright yellows and dark blue but also grey, white and tones of sand. The use of color gives it a very artistic vibe, it is as if I am watching a Mondriaan painting in an art gallery in Paris. Although the silhouettes come across as very European, the fabrics, especially the diamond motifs and matelasse padded material, give it an oriental twist and make me curious for the Nagaland culture and its tribes. The collection plays with different fabrics and textures and is perfect for a European summer. Women who want to look classy and confident should opt for Lecoanet Hemant this summer. Designer label Lecoanet Hemant was established in 1979 Paris, France by French designer Didier Lecoanet and his Indian partner Hemant Sagar. Their resume is outstanding, both attended the prestigious fashion school ‘Ecoles de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne’ and are members of the ‘Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne’ the governing body of fashion in France. Didier Lecoanet made his fashion debut at French fashion house LANVIN and the designer duo have been honored with a prestigious award, the Golden Thimble (Le de d’or) in 1994. Their collections have made an appearance at many acclaimed fashion weeks around the world including Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week and Lakme Fashion Week in India.
