Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2014 took place in Mumbai, India last week – 20th until the 24th of August. Designers from all across India gathered in Mumbai to showcase their Winter/Festive 2014 collections. Designer Amit Aggarwal showcased his collection during the opening ceremony on the 19th of august and Manish Malhotra closed the event on the 24th. Lakmé Fashion Week wouldn’t be LFW without the Bollywood stars. Several actresses and actors appeared on the ramp to showcase the finale pieces. Last week we’ve seen actresses like Priyanka Chopra walk for designer Varun Bahl and Kareena Kapoor for Manish Malhotra, just to name a few. I have chosen 15 of my favorite looks from this LFW season to share with you today.
I adore the deep purple color from this silk Sanjay Garg design and the embroidery detail on the skirt. Anita Dongre’s ‘India Modern’ collection is a colorful bridal collection, but I have chosen this black and white look because it is a perfect fusion between contemporary and traditional. Formal suit meets Indian gown! Anju Modi’s collection consists of traditional bridal designs. This dark blue look is one of the most beautiful looks I have seen on the ramp this year. The intricate embroidery is beyond stunning and the long sleeved crop top suits the winter/festive theme very well. Ridhi Mehra’s collection ‘Mystical Nuit’ is one of my favorites. This soft, pastel peach ensemble looks wonderful. As you might have noticed I am a big fan of intricate embroidery and fine details. I’m often left speechless by the craftsmanship that appears on the Indian runway each season.
The collections by SVA by Sonam & Paras Modi, Swati Vijaivargie and Neha Agarwal caught my eye because of their creative use of fabric, color and bold prints. Vikram Phadnis showcased this regal style, lehenga ensemble. I love the color combination; black and yellow combined with neutral shades.
Arpita Mehta’s hot pink lehenga design was the showstopper from her collection ‘Starlight’. A very modern and young look with beautiful metallic, floral embroidery. Shantanu & Nikhil’s red look from their collection ‘Himalayan Couture Queen’ is one of my favorite looks. I adore the soft, shiny fabric and amazing skirt detail. Payal Singhal’s innovative red look is very fashion forward. A pant/skirt creation combined with sexy crop top and scarf detail, embellished all over with silver embroidery. Anushree Reddy’s design is a guilty pleasure. The candy pink and soft blue color combined with glitter and glamour makes this an ensemble straight out of a fairytale. The looks by JADE are very edgy and tribal. The mysterious vibe surrounding this collection suits the dark winter months. Amit Aggarwal once again showed his love for science fiction and artificial intelligence. This futuristic bridal look is daring and very artistic. Manish Malhotra’s collection was innovative. Manish is known for his Bollywood costume design and signature looks. I am glad that he steps out of his comfort zone from time to time to show us something new and fresh. This stunning grey look with shimmer detail is modern, on trend and looks beautiful!
